I Believe in the physiological, psychological, and overall healing benefits of touch.
As a highly skilled Physical Therapist, my hands-on interventions are one of my most powerful interventions. I never use machines i.e. ultrasound, as I believe I am more able to effect change, and promote healing with my hands.
Manual therapy is often the necessary first step to help create a change in your system; lengthening soft tissues, re-aligning bones and joints, decreasing pain, and down-regulating the nervous system. My goal is to give your body the opportunity to begin to shift into better alignment, so you can feel safe, at home, and present in your body. This empowers my clients to be successful with self care; integrating foundational alignment, and improving movement patterns.
Using a variety of hands-on techniques I am able to sense chronic restrictions, adaptations, and myofascial limitations in your body. Some of the instruments I use, such as cupping and Graston tools, reverberate in my hands, giving me real time information about your body’s response throughout the treatment.
I will always educate you, throughout your sessions, about exactly what I am perceiving, the implications, the theory behind what I am doing, our plan of care, and the long term expected outcome.
I don’t just chase your pain. I FIND, AND treat the root cause.
I might need to work on an area of your body different than the painful area you came to see me about. That’s because a restriction in one area is often the root cause of the pain and dysfunction in a completely different part of your body. I don’t just chase your pain. I find, and treat the root cause, so you have long lasting results. By understanding your body, and the reason for your pain, you have the power to begin to take some control of your healing.
As you progress, become stronger, and more independent, we continue to fine tune our interventions incorporating hands-on techniques into movement, i.e. doing Graston techniques or cupping while performing patterning challenges on the Pilates reformer.
These are just some of the techniques I incorporate:
- Myofascial Release (MFR)
- Graston
- Tactile Cuing
- Cupping/Suction
- Manual Traction
- Restorative Manual Stretching
- Joint Mobilization
- Soft Tissue Mobilization
- Kinesio-tape
Extensive research by the University of Miami’s Touch Research Institute has revealed that human touch has wide-ranging physical and emotional benefits for people of all age groups. In the Institute’s experiments, touch lessened pain, improved pulmonary function, increased growth in infants, lowered blood glucose, and improved immune function. Human touch is important for all ages.
